About
Josh first worked in Boston as a cabinetmaker and carpenter before pursuing a master's degree in architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Although he found his time in an architect’s office rewarding, he missed the hands-on challenges of fieldwork, where theoretical ideas are tested by real-world spatial and engineering problems.
In Chicago, Josh founded a Design/Build company specializing in the renovation of residential and commercial buildings, many of which were located in historic districts. His work earned recognition, including the Wicker Park Historic Preservation Award. In the company’s woodshop, Josh and his team restored dozens of century-old doors and hundreds of feet of reclaimed trim, including hand-carved Egg-and-Dart moldings, and installed them in homes, offices, and lofts.
After more than 20 years in Chicago, Josh and his wife returned to Western Massachusetts to raise their children closer to family. He initially worked in the Solar PV and Fuel Cell energy sector, managing projects from Virginia to Maine. Josh oversaw both residential and large-scale utility solar PV installations, as well as Fuel Cell energy generator installations for manufacturing and communication facilities, including the World Trade Center in New York City.
He enthusiastically returned to local renovation work in Western Massachusetts, focusing on both residential and commercial projects. Josh finds it both challenging and rewarding to take a customer’s ideas and dreams and bring them to life. He remains dedicated to building, remodeling, and repurposing existing structures, working closely with clients while prioritizing architectural innovation and environmental sustainability. In addition to his professional work, Josh also serves as an active member of the local YMCA Board of Directors.
